what is a legal advocate?
The Legal Advocate works with victims of domestic violence, sexual assault/abuse, and human trafficking to provide information regarding their rights throughout criminal and civil justice proceedings; referrals to legal resources; accompaniment to court; and advocacy with local resources.
what can a legal advocate help with?
The Legal Advocate is able to assist with explaining the Protective/Peace Order process; filing Protective/Peace Orders, accompany victims to court, Commissioner’s Office, and other legal appointments; accompany victims to appointments with local law enforcement; and advocate on the victim’s behalf with community resource providers.
Is a legal advocate an attorney?
No, our Legal Advocate is not an attorney and cannot give legal advice. If you are in need of legal advice, we can provide resources to local agencies who may be able to help.

The legal advocate also accompanies law enforcement to in-person follow ups to assess safety and make a client aware of local resources available to them.

Hospital accompaniment
What is hospital Accompaniment?
Family Crisis Resource Center has advocates ready to respond 24/7 to those who are receiving medical attention as a result of domestic violence or sexual assault. FCRC is a part of the Sexual Assault Response team in the community and will be contacted by the hospital or law enforcement when our services are needed. Our advocates are trauma-informed and educated on how to appropriately provide support to survivors. Individuals who are offered accompaniment will be provided with resources to utilize as they see fit.
