Child abuse casts a shadow the length of a lifetime
-herbert ward

Millions of children are witnessing domestic violence in their homes every single day. Some of those children will not only witness it, but endure it as well. The outcome of children growing up in violent homes can be catastrophic. Domestic violence disrupts brain development, creates an environment of unsafety, and at times makes the child feel responsible for it. Leaving an abusive relationship with children involved is difficult and often keeps survivors stuck. Help is out there. You and your child(ren) deserve a happy and healthy home.

Effects of domestic violence on children

  • Behavioral changes (irritable, angry, depressed)
  • Social withdrawal
  • Incontinence
  • Sleeping too much or not at all
  • Anxious attachment to one parent
  • Changed eating habits
  • Defiance
  • Emotional outbursts
  • Difficulty focusing
  • Losing interest in normal activities
  • Doing poorly in school
  • Increased risk of health problems as an adult
  • Increased risk of suicide and mental health problems
  •  Increased risk of being abused or being a perpetrator
